ENTROIDO DE COBRES
Traditional celebration in Vilaboa (Galicia, Spain). This is a celebration passed by oral tradition from fathers to sons from ancient times. It current form it's dated in early XVIII century and it's unique to Santa Cristina and San Adrián de Cobres parishes. It takes place in february and it goes on from 10:00 A.M. until sun goes down.

From Saturday to Tuesday "Madamas" and "Galáns", name given to the female and male dancers respectively, go dancing trough the different parts of the parishes accompanied by musicians dancing to traditional dances (jotas, muiñeiras, agarrado) and the exclusive to this place " Danza de Os Cobres"

The celebration goes door to door, paying special attention to visit the houses of people who, for some reason (being ill for example), can't attend to the celebrations. Neighbours are supposed to give a donation to the celebration.

Costumes are handcrafted and are a trademark of this celebration. They are full of colors, jewells and details. Something particular here is that they don't wear a mask, unlike other entroidos in Galicia.

This tradition is still going on thanks to the hard work of " Asociación Cultural de Cobres ".
