VIANA DO CASTELO
Viana do Castelo is a city in the north of Portugal and seat of the homonymous district . This northern region has a really strong connection with its roots that can be seen in its traditional music and costumes.
This costumes were worn by girls from rural villages near the city of Viana do Castelo, which gained its own characteristics that individualized it in the mid-19th century and was used until the beginning of the 20th century.
The boldness of its coloring and the enormous profusion of decorative elements are the most distinctive characteristics of this costume.
The dances and clothing has become a symbol of local identity and you can find a lot of information about this in the Museum of the costume of Minho in Viana do Castelo and even buy incredible jewels and clothing from local artists.
This photos were taken during Easter 2022 celebrations. It was an amazing show which really resonates with me since the clothing and dances have a lot in common with my own roots (Galicia).
